News August 17 2002 :: Finally, here are the screenshots Finally, the so long-awaited section is here! Yes, I finally decided to buy a digital camera. I could not resist to the Canon A40. Result ? A brand new section named Screenshots where visitors can view LCDNetstat. July 1 2002 :: Makefile fix The file Makefile has been corrected. Before, when a user typed "make", the program was compiled as usually but after that, "make install" was run automaticly. This bug was discovered by William Schutz. This change appear in LCDNetstat 2.0.1 June 30 2002 :: LCDNetstat 2.0.1, the baud rate fix! William Schutz reported me to have some difficulties with LCDNetstat 2.0. The problem was a non coherent display due to a non specified baud rate during the LCDNetstat initialization. LCDNetstat 2.0.1 now take care of the baud rate. It is specified via the BaudRate directive in the configuration file, default value is 9600. It is very important to respect the limit of your hardware. If you want to increase that value, please refer to your LCD device documentation to know the maximum speed of your LCD device. June 02 2002 :: LCDNetstat 2.0, take 2! Finally, version 2.0 is ready (again!). LCDNetstat 2.0 was released in the end of march but was lost when one of my hard disks broke. After few weeks of reprogramming, the version 2.0 is now ready. The stability is incomparable and the ressource consumation is extremely low. The main difference between the series 1.x and the 2.x is the end of lcdproc. Now LCDNetstat manage his own driver, no more need to have TCP/IP port open for lcdproc, now it use 100% of the space on your display, since the 1st line is no more lost by lcdproc. April 20 2002 :: HD Upgrade to SCSI I just got a cute SCSI kit, 4Gigs Quantum SCSI + Plextor40x SCSI + Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI cdontroller. This equipement replace the broken 1.2Gig Fujistu IDE. Unfortunatly, i am no longer using OpenBSD 3.0 due to a bug with the scsi driver for this SCSI controller :( As soon as OpenBSD will fix that bug, i will return with them. Meanwhile, i will enjoy Linux. In fact, this will be benefic for LCDNetstat since i have the chance to test it on different platform, i already found a suprise, the flag -f is not recognized in netstat for Linux. To prevent trouble with this, i will put a netstat directive in the next release to set the netstat parameter to no longer use hardcoded parameter in the program code. April 2 2002 :: Primary master hard disk fail An electricity outage occurs and when it came backup, i had a big suprise on my console, "Primary master hard disk fail". I checked the cable, change IDE cable, change IDE position, slave, master etc... nothing... i pray, still nothing... i gave 5$ to Unicef thinking this will calm an angry god, still nothing... my hard disk was dead... After a brief funeral ceremony, i changed it for another hard disk. I had a full backup of the old one (ouf!) but i still lost 1 month of work... Unfortunatly i lost the final release of LCDNetstat 2.0. :~( I am currently working with the last backup of LCDNetstat 2.0, there is some minor things, to do, it should be release soon. March 7 2002 :: Pipe vs file I am trying to reduce the workload of LCDNetstat, in the beta release, we are doing a system call to put the result of netstat in a temporary file. After that, we open that file and work on it. This could be good for a script who run every 12 hours, but for LCDNetstat, who run at each seconds, it's not the best solution. I decide to use a pipe wich reduce the workload a lot. March 3 2002 :: The version 2.0 is nearby ready Since few weeks, i am working to port LCDNetstat in C++. The new version will be fully compatible with BSD. It will be totally free of lcdproc too, so you wont have a TCP/IP port open for that. The prototype of LCDNetstat 2 is working fine under CFontz. The config files has been change a little bit, no more lcdproc settings section but a new directive to select the com port. Right now, i have to code the names resolution, ignore list. hide duplicate feature and find a way to get netstat without using an external file before releasing the first beta. The beta version of LCDNetstat 2 should be release for the end of march. |
